Keshar Mahal was the palace of Field Marshall Keshar (or Kaiser as he spelled it out for himself) Shumsher JBR, given to him by his father Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher JBR. The palace is now home to Nepal's Ministry of Education.

The property is also home the his extensive library which is known as Keshar library and an exclusive palace garden which Keshar maintained. It was recently renovated to form the new Garden of Dreams which has become an integral part of the greater Thamel touristic area.
