Hile and Dhankuta are like twin towns. Dhankuta has its glorious past as a regional government center of eastern Nepal. It still serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Development Region.

To its north is the beautiful town of Hile. It is a big tourist destination and boasts amazing scenery of surrounding Himalayas. Hile is a starting point for trekkers making trips to Kanchenjunga or Makalu.

One can reach Hile/Dhankuta after heading north from the industrial town of Biratnagar, passing through Itahari crossing the East-West Highway, up to Dharan and heading further north through Bhedetar. Each one of the towns mentioned above is totally different from the other. So this is an amazing route that passes through so many diversified settlements within such a short distance.
